Figs
Figs can be found fresh when in season, or dried throughout the year. They are an excellent sweetener in recipes, and work well as a high-fiber alternative where dates are called for.
Fresh figs do not ripen once picked. Choose figs that are soft without being bruised or mushy. Fresh figs will last only 2-3 days in the refrigerator.
